HONEY IS UNDER ATTACK!!! This is not a joke. Beekeeping 101 #beekeeping
I swear, using wired wax foundation. Placed a super on my strongest hive, a double deep colony, and they had that super drawn and filled within the month. Expected to be capped in the following week.
Good content.
Live in south east MI, getting swarms is getting harder and harder.. caught one about 2 weeks ago and seems to bee struggling.. going to give them some sugar water today and see how that goes. I’m a firm believer in not helping them with feedings. 14:45 bees seem to be disappearing year after year.. live in the country, and the farmers are constantly spraying.
I allow them to draw their own comb no foundation.
Will they draw out wonky comb if you over wax your frames?
Spot on with waxing the frames...my bees were not building out my waxed frames until I purchased bees wax and waxed them myself...just checked my boxes, and they are going to town building out the frames..
Sorry but your description of Carniolan's do not sound at all like carniolain bees. Cariolan traits should be more winter hardy and use less stores. SO I am not sure where your getting your carniolan bees but it sound to me like they are not sure bred carniolan bees your getting. As for saskatraz, those are just a mutt breed they gave a fancy name too and sell for a premium. It is a complete gimmick, they are so cross bed that they can't stabilize the traits.
I treat my two hives per instruction, exactly!!! Temp here 50 low 79 high. Day 1 thunderstorms rolled through and by morning over 1/2 of super strong hive…. DEAD AND STILL DYING. Weaker hive well over a 1/3 dead… What the what??? I’m pulling the two strips at this point in order to save hive and see if Queens are also dead! Any advise or suggestions??
Could the interest in swarming have to do with the strength of queen pheromone? weaker in the smaller colony.
is that bee suit cool? where did you source yours?
It’s from humblebee! It’s a little pricey but it was so worth it! My only complaint is about where the sippers meet by your neck for the vail, once the Velcro gets some wear on it, a bee or 2 can sometimes slip thru. It’s very breathable tho and has lots of pockets.
Where should you put them? I feel like my property is pretty reasonable. 😂
I caught a swarm begining of june in a box that had mouse damage theycleaned it up and now working on the second box
It sure is amazing what bees can do, especially with all of the swarming we saw this year!
Those are looking good... You need any more jester boxes guy has 200 for 4.00 each .. they are used but still in good shape.. he's up in port Huron
Name #3 the Gypsy hive.
I love that! That is what we will be calling her ☺️
awesome ❤
Im sorry but did I miss the part talking about Picking a location? Was looking for info about that topic, doesnt seem like there was any about picking a location in this video
The title is more related to what is written at the beginning of the description.
Great video
Isn't it amazing how attached and personal we get with our hives especially our queens. I had a strong hive get slimmed this week, and it ruined my whole week.
It truly is, we only want the best for our bees. WOW! Slimmed out hives are probably my biggest heart break to see happen to a hive. I had a real hatred for small hive beetles after seeing what they did to a couple of my hives last year. I hope you are able to get the hives cleaned up and ready for new residents!! Sending lots of love to ya!
Very helpful. A best organic practice dear. Im from JAFFNA SRILANKA struggling with bee mites for 3 years since i knew about the mite attack, we dont have any varroa here but very tiny than varoa mite in out apis cerena bees. I can remeber in the off season only in the june starting most of the hive get affected by these mites. some hives stop layung becaususe of no flow and after a period of time if they lay egg the hive is 95% cleared out of brood issues. And im also trying the requenning method it reducing honey any how its give benefits rather than keeping it further in to disaster. Thanks. I like to connect via social medias if possible can i Get your contact please.
Love your channel! Thank you so much for sharing it looks so fun! I'm so happy for you
Thank you!!! Welcome to the BeeFit fam 🥰 I am so happy to have you here!!
Who taught u beekeeping? Good job
Me myself and I 😁 funny bc it turns out both my great uncle and grandpa were sideline beekeepers. They ran 200-300 hives and pollinated all over Michigan. But they died before I was born so I never got meet them. There must be something about family blood and what we become interested in
Stoned ?
My lighters did the same thing, but then my friends bought me an Honest torch lighter
I haven’t heard of those! I’ll have to check them out, bees have been a little bit fiesty lately 😳
Hey i am living in the macomb area and would like to know if you are located nearby. I am interested in beekeeping but don't know how to get started here in Michigan.
I'm in Macomb, my bees are in St. Clair. Look up Pine River Bee Club. Attend a meeting. They meet 3rd Tuesday with club hive inspections, then presentation. Beginner to advanced.
I’m located near Hillsdale. Definitely join a bee club! That would help immensely! If there’s enough interest I’ve been considering hosting my own classes. So if that’s something you’d be interested in driving over for let me know!
Does anyone know why Bruce Rodriguez isn't commenting here? :)
I only got through the first 3 but I'm sorry to tell you they apply to almost every endeavor a human can undertake in life and therefore are mute. Sitting in a room doing nothing solves them but that is not a life.
👍🏼

Surah An-Nahl ( The Bees ) - Aya count 128
It is what I'd you skishedqueen on purpose to requeen against European fullbroad but is varoa or queen pattern week not mated well
My first thought was maybe she’s getting old since she was a swarm but since her egg laying pattern looks good but her capped brood pattern is what looks bad with those gooey looking cells I’d say EFB it is. I’ve been told that efb is always in a bee hive, it’s not until they become stressed that it pops up. Nutritional stress especially a lack of pollen can cause it too.
I normally give mine 1 strip of apivar kinda let them grow into the treatment.. that way they never pickup a mite load until I put them out for honey production .. makes big difference in growth and they make more goldenrod
I like that thought! Getting rid of mites while they’re small I think is a game changer. This yard in particular is still treatment free since it is our breeding yard, we are treating all of the others but……if we are moving these nice onto pallets to grow……hmmmmmm lots of experimenting to do to see our best approach
I know it stinks to kill the queen but it will be ok you have 100 more hives
Yes indeed! This queen is very swarmy too so I’m hoping I can breed that out of them over a few cycles of queens
Check out Bob Bennies EFB experimental treatment. ua-cam.com/video/MZjIAtvbiW4/v-deo.html I started this 5 days ago myself, between last year and this year I have already burnt15+ boxes of frames trying to get this EFB out of my system. Hopefully this will work.
Shook swarm onto fresh foundation is what we have to do in UK if we find EFB.
I hear that it is tricky getting them to clean up the comb theirselves. They just keep on reinfecting theirselves each time they injest infected brood..I hear this with AFB too. Requeening and throwing on a pollen party is the experiment in trying out
Name her Run Away Bride
There is definitely a genetic trait for more swarming or less swarming. In my opinion
Name her Deceased!
It needed requeened anyway
Just a couple days ago I was working my calmest Carnie hive and after getting it all back together I noticed the Queen walking on my arm. If I had been wearing a bee suit I may not have noticed and carried her away from the hive. Some of my hives have Italian and require a jacket with veil but I like all of them.
😱 it’s a good thing you felt her! Some of those queens like to hide and move all over the place 🧐
It’ll be good for them to get a brood break and clean up that possible foul brood Emily. And she’s not gonna swarm now 😂❤
Sry about queen. Hey theres eggs so its not a total loss
Not at all, she was needing to be requeened at some point anyways. That may have been why they had already started on a queen cell for her 🤷🏼♀️ so it works out!! I hope your bee season is treating you well! ♥️♥️
That's a sick colony. The queen was laying eggs in every cell but later I see brood diseases and most of the brood is missing.. there's EFB, Sack brood probably more. That's the colony where you throw away the brood frames and restrict it to minimum.. and if you really have some hygienic bees you use those.. but I doubt. If it was here everything would be washed in chlorine and later painted with a propolis tincture with a thick coat. How can you watch that frame in hand and not see the disease on it ? Where is your needle to poke the cells with a small hole on capping ? You want to learn something.. don't you
Thanks for the shout out..
Thank you for the great advice!! We chatted about you in my angels landing video too
Bee numbers looked a bit low?
Yep! Check out my most recent video 🤪😘
I have been binge-watching all your videos. Some much amazing info and knowledge. Thank you. I just started beekeeping and got paired up with a mentor from Hives for Heroes. I am excited to start.
Congrats on starting beekeeping!! There is soooooo much to learn, it definitely a forever learning type of activity. But that the best part about it ☺️ best of luck these next 3 years!
I’m a beekeeper and the only way I can collect my honey is when I’m totally drunk. I found that being drunk helps me to not feel any bee stings. For those that are interested in being a drunk beekeeper I recommend insure you have no less than nine strong shots of tequila prior to working your hives.
🤣🤣🤣 thank you for the giggle, I needed that 😂 I can only imagine watching this happen!
Just came across your channel and love your straight to the point approach. Subbed and looking forward to learning. Thank you
AHHH!!!! Welcome to the fam! I am so thankful to have you here 🥰
Hey do u want any brand new equipment really REALLY cheap? I got deep boxes , some mediums, frames & plastic waxed foundations, screened bottoms w inserts & telescoping top cover with metal cover & inner covers.. basically a double deep hive with a medium +frames & foundations & everything else I listed for $110 + I throw in a excluder, hive tool, & smoker with each hive purchase...it's not homemade equipment, it's dovetail joints on boxes. I can send u pics if interested. I'm just in Ohio 20 min south of Cleveland.
How many do you have? I’m currently looking to buy in bulk. Say 100-200 deeps
@@beefitbeekeeping already got rid of what I'm getting rid of, sorry! I did see a really awesome tool for sale that cuts the box joints all at once for building boxes.. they're like 4 grand tho
Whatever u do ,do not buy from mann lake, frames or boxes, straight garbage!
I liked your video and I loved hearing you say all the things that so many people say in this situation. This is a difficult area for beginners. I just want to help here. I have kept bees for 50 years. Laying workers can fly. They do fly and they will fly. This is simply a fact. Shaking does except one thing . . . . . . it causes the bees to drift into other hives because they have no place else to go. That is a fact. When they go into these other hives, their laying instincts turn off again because of the pheromones in those other hive. There is also some evidence that some of them may be killed off by the other hives. If you don't want to shake (and I don't shake) then best way to fix this problem is to add a frame of open brood. It has to be OPEN brood. Then, later, (like the next day) add the laying worker hivet to another hive with a sheet of newspaper between or you can then try introducing a queen, but introducing a queen at this juncture is a little risky even with a frame of brood and you could lose your queen. I add a frame of unsealed brood and then I add them to another hive with newspaper, and then I split it up again, a couple of weeks later, giving the split a new queen. Laying workers will not cause other hives to become laying worker hives because of the presence of pheromones in those other hives. It is the presence of unsealed brood that turns off laying workers. That is the most important fact. Laying workers? The answer is unsealed brood.
Yes yes and yes! That is the best way I have found to fix laying workers. It’s when you have other queenless hives in the yard that you really develop a problem. Before you know it, they’re all laying workers 🥲
